DAME MARGARET THOROLD'S APPRENTICING CHARITY (Charity No. 527628)

On the south wall of the church there is a large stone tablet decribing the Dame Margaret Thorold Apprenticing Charity.

The Thorold Charity Tablet

The purpose of the charity is to benefit young people resident in the Parishes of Cranwell, Marston, and Sedgebrook who are preparing for, or entering upon, or engaged in any trade, occupation or service.  Originally intended primarily to benefit those taking up an apprenticeship, the wording of the Charity's Governing Document is sufficiently wide to extend to those attending university or college with a view to entering a particular profession. Support is provided in the form of monetary grants of about £100 per year.

Any young person living in Cranwell who wishes to be considered for an award should apply in writing by the end of November with documentary proof that he or she is undertaking an apprenticeship, college, or university course to:

The Trustees meet in February of the following year to consider the applications. The Trustees are the appropriate Vicar or Rector and two representatives of each of the Parish Councils of the villages covered by the charity.
