What is Parish Nursing?
It is... Churches of all denominations appointing registered nurses with community experience to promote whole person health care in their local communities, For people of all faiths and none, including an intentional focus on spiritual care.
"Parish" can also mean community or neighbourhood.
Parish Nurses are supported, trained, coordinated and resourced by Parish Nursing Ministries UK , a charitable company. Parish Nurses work within the Code of Professional Practice (Nursing and Midwifery Council).

The Walesby Group of Parishes have a Parish Nurse, Linda Mackay , who is part of the Ministry team. Linda's base is with All Saints Church, Tealby, one of the nine churches in the Walesby Group. She is a registered nurse with over 30 years community nurse experience of promoting community and family health.
Linda gifts time to the Parish Nurse Role on Tuesday when she is based in Brookenby and on Wednesday she is availabe in Tealby 9-9.45am before then going on the Walk for Health (Caistor). This two year project will be reviewed in the summer of 2012, she aims:
To explore and develop the role of Parish Nurse within the Walesby Group of Parishes.
This is an evolving role but includes:
- Visiting congregational contacts who have health-related concerns, acting to complement the health services. Visits maybe in the home or hospital.
- Pastoral care as part of the Ministry team, exploring connections between faith and health.
- Assessment of parish needs in order to develop links with resources that promote community well being.
- Provide information on healthcare topics.
- Help to understand a disease or condition
- Offering support and a listening ear.
