Activities for Children
Guthlac's Young Explorers
Our Young Explorers group offers children Christian teaching with enthusiasm, through fun activities and craft work.
The group meets in the Green School opposite the church at 9.50am, on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd (and 5th where appropriate) Sunday of the month. Following their activities they join the rest of the congregation for the climax of the Service. On the 4th Sunday* the children join the rest of the congregation for the whole service, learning together more about one of the familiar stories from the Bible.
We hold a regular craft workshop every Good Friday and a children's party early each New Year. The children also take part in presentations in church services throughout the year.
Children between the ages of 3 and 10 years are all welcome to attend after which they move up to join the Vestry Group.
* Occasionally, to suit the Church's calendar, the week of the All Age Eucharist is changed, so please check What's On.
Vestry GroupAfter the age of 10, our church children attend the Vestry Group which starts at 9:50 am in the Green School and ends in time to rejoin the congregation before Communion.
Each week we do a variety of stories and activities suitable for older children and younger teenagers.
Pram and Buggy
Until recently, our Pram and Buggy group met at the church on the first and third Thursday of each month at 2:00pm and was aimed at pre-school children.
The volunteers are ready and waiting to run this group again. So if you're interested, and especially if you also know others who might join you, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

St Guthlac's Junior Youth Club
The Junior Youth Group ran for many years with healthy numbers, but it temporarily on hold. We are aiming to restart this group as soon as we are able. When the Club is running, we meet every Tuesday during term time at the Green School between 6.15pm and 7.15pm. Anyone between ages 6 and 11 can join.
If you wish to register your interest, you can make contact via the administrator; details are at the foot of this page.
Here is a sample of last year's Junior Youth Club activities:
We made lots of things - the sweets were very tasty and the model we made of a castle won first prize and cup at the Deepings Show. We also made pizzas, mince meat and had a trip to the Hills and Holes.
We played lots of games as well. "Mrs Brown's shopping basket" is a real favourite, and we all enjoy going outside to play at the swings via the chip shop.
We always do something different on special occasions. On Remembrance Day we made poppies, at Christmas we had a party, on Shrove Tuesday we ate pancakes and for Mothering Sunday we made sweets.
