In Memoriam - Sunday 1st November 2020 2pm to 4pm

An afternoon to remember those we have lost

Memorial Book

One of the many sad consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic is that those who have lost loved one during the lock-down or periods of restrictions have been unable to say good bye in the way they would have wished.

Traditionally the Christian Church observes All Souls Day on November 2nd when all those who have departed this life are remembered with love and affection. In previous years St Guthlac's Church in Market Deeping has held a service of remembrance on the Sunday Evening nearest this date which has been popular with both the newly bereaved and with those whose sense of grief and loss is ongoing.

As we cannot hold the service in its usual form this year we shall be holding an event "In Memoriam", an afternoon when people can drop in at any time between 2pm and 4pm.

  • There will be appropriate background music playing and short periods of prayers and Bible readings interspersed with periods of quiet for personal reflection.
  • Each person will be greeted as they enter and collect a candle to light in memory of their loved one and a prayer card to use and take away.
  • Members of the ministry team will be in attendance for those who would like an individual conversation.
  • All are invited; you do not need to be a member of the congregation, a churchgoer or someone who has been bereaved. If you would welcome a short period of time of quiet reflection simply drop in at any time and leave whenever you are ready.

You can also read more about this event on page 5 in our October Church Magazine.
