ST. LAWRENCE'S YOUTH GROUP
OVERALL AIM
To enable our Young People to develop a relationship with Jesus Christ which will sustain them throughout their lives.
St. Lawrence's Church has had a Youth Group for much of its recent history and the current group was started in 1986 to meet the needs of the young people who were then part of the congregation. The size of the group and the activities we get involved in have changed and evolved over the years but the group is still going strong and plays an active and important part in church life and in the development of close relations with our neighbours.
The needs of the young people are constantly changing but the overall aim set out above is achieved by sharing in activities together, learning about life and the Christian Faith and creating an atmosphere where all youngsters can grow and develop in an environment that's fun, friendly and respectful.
Our work with young people is relationship based and the leaders work hard to gain their trust and to be a living Christian presence for them in all that we do. With trust comes mutual respect and a willingness to learn and share.
So what do we do at St. Lawrence's Youth Group?
Hall activities - chat, table tennis, drama, pool, drama,
music, games, teaching, a chance to relax,
all night events, quizzes
Evenings Out - cinema, skating, skiing, bowling, swimming
Church Activities - services, Summer Fair, readings, prayers
Barbecues
Joint Meetings - group meetings with other youth groups and
shared activities; participation at Youth for
Christ events
Christian Teaching - Bible study, Lent groups, Alpha courses
Social Teaching - discussion of issues which impact on young
people today
Fund Raising - for others, ourselves and the Church
At the end of the day what we do very much depends on the group and how energetic and enthusiastic they want to be!
The Youth Group is there for all young people who are of secondary school age and upwards, whether they are a member of the Church or not. Members are encouraged to bring their friends.
We meet on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month in the Church Hall or elsewhere from 7p.m. to 9p.m. with other meetings/events arranged as appropriate.
St. Lawrence's Church has adopted a "Safe from Harm" policy which is designed to protect the young people in our care and to ensure that the Youth Group environment is one of fun, love, learning and respect, where everyone's gifts, personality and faith can grow and develop.
