Café St. Paul

Café St. PaulEach Thursday shoppers taking advantage of Ashby's regular Market Day are able to purchase light refreshments in the Café which runs in St. Paul's Hall. Staffed by teams of volunteers the Café serves tea, coffee, soup, home-made cakes and toasted tea-cakes at very reasonable prices in pleasant surroundings. There is also a bring-and-buy stall offering various bargains!

The Café provides a welcome oasis in the busy Ashby High Street, a useful contact point with the Church and some very welcome fund-raising into the bargain!

St. Peter's Bell Ringers

For over fifty years the three original bells at St. Peter's (the oldest being cast in the reign of Queen Ann) had been silent. However, a millennium campaign by the Friends of St. Peter's meant that these three original bells could be cleaned, re-tuned and re-hung, along with three brand new bells, in a new steel frame. Decitation of St. Peter's BellsThis was installed below the medieval wooden frame (which remains in situ at the top of the tower). The project ended with the construction of a wooden ringing platform half-way up the tower arch and, altogether, means that the six bells can now be run full-circle. The weight of the tenor is 6 cwt.

The dedication service was performed by the Bishop of Grimsby, Rt. Rev'd David Rossdale, on February 16th 2003. The first Quarter Peal was rung in March that year and the first Full Peal in the November.

St. Peter's RingersAfter starting with only three ringers we have gone from strength to strength. With the support of many other ringers from towers throughout the area, we now have a thriving band, several of whom are young ringers who are keen to learn. We are now able to ring for Sunday morning services with our own ringers and also to ring for many weddings throughout the year.

Ringing practice night is Tuesday from 7.30pm.

Anyone interested in ringing at Bottesford (including visiting bands of ringers) should contact the Tower Captain, Pam on 01724 860988.

Family Fellowship

Family FellowshipOur group started as a meeting point for newly confirmed adults throughout the parish, but now it's a group of friends who enjoy each others' company.

Family Fellowship has been in existence for approx. 26 years. The membership has changed enormously in all this time, but one or two of our original members still belong (perhaps you'd like to study our photograph and try and guess which they are)!!

Our meetings usually take place on the 3rd Wednesday of each month (except for January & February - to avoid bad weather, and August - because of holiday time). Our subject matter is very varied and ranges from serious to light hearted.  We would welcome new members: for more information please contact the Secretary, Cathryn, on 01724 348129.
